The Age Paul Kalina

Flamenco takes director on a short detour.

Hollywood Film director Roger Spottiswoode went out for meal out at a restaurant and tapas bar in the heart of Fitzroy's Spanish strip. As Spottiswoode ate, he had no idea a handful of musicians and flamenco dancers were making their way to the small stage in the family-run Kanela restaurant. Captivated by the intensity and talent he had witnessed, before the evening was over, Spottiswoode had resolved to make a short film of the performance. The short film was shot in the restaurant Kanela "It added to the intensity and the spirit of the whole vision", Spottiswoode said. El Toque de un Beso screened on the St Kilda Film Festival opening night and has been feature in short film festivals throughout Europe, America and Australia.
